Our Services - some questions answered
Will there be a welcome? You will be welcomed as you arrive and we will be happy to help you during your time with us - just ask if you need anything. What about babies and young children? We welcome those with babies and children and know that they will not always remain quiet. We are used to youngsters who get restless and take a walk during the service. At morning service, everybody is together for the first about fifteen minutes, then children may leave for Rock Groups (see below). Also, during the morning, there is a creche for the very young. Everyone who works with children and young people must confirm their acceptance of the church's "Safe to Grow" (Child Protection) policy. (see Good Practice Guidelines) Can disabled people join in?There is step free access from the street to the main entrance in the Centre, and from there, into the church. For the hard of hearing, we operate a loop system in the main worship area for users of suitably equipped hearing aids. There is a toilet for the disabled adjacent to the Church and Centre. Where can I sit? There's is no reserved seating - you can choose where to sit. (Arrive early if you want a seat at the back, in Baptist churches these are usually the most popular!) In the morning, many of the children sit together at the front, but others prefer to stay with mum or dad until Rock Groups. Do I need to pay anything? We usually take an offering during each service. This is mainly for regulars who wish to give money towards the work of the church. Visitors are not obliged to contribute and may let the stewards pass them by. Do I have to join in?Worship leaders often encourage participation, for example suggesting prayer topics. But there is no embarrassment if you don't want to. At any time you can sit or stand, whatever suits you, whatever everybody else is doing. It is not compulsory to wave your arms in praise or clap while singing. At communion, we invite all "who love the Lord Jesus" to share the bread and wine, which is brought to where you sit by a deacon. If you do not wish take these, you may wave the Deacon by, but we will be pleased if stay with us. Will someone talk with me?Yes, particularly after the service when refreshments are served in the Centre. After each service, members of the Ministry Team at the front of the church will be ready to talk and pray with (or for) you if you approach them. Of course, if you prefer, you can politely avoid all attempts at conversation! |
